Ms Cathreen Alma Mafi was appointed as the Acting Auditor General for Tonga on July 1, 2025.
Background
Ms. Mafi holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of the South Pacific and is a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA Aust.). She has accumulated over 10 years of auditing experience, with a particular focus on performance auditing and compliance auditing.
Prior to her appointment, Ms. Mafi served as Executive Director of the Performance Audit Division, where she provided leadership and oversight in ensuring that audits contributed to improved governance, accountability, and transparency across the public sector.
Her appointment as Acting Auditor General reflects the Office’s continuing commitment to professional excellence, integrity, and independence in fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
